Uttarakhand’s GB Pant university inks pact with Russia on cattle cloning, research

The GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Uttarakhand’s Pantnagar has signed an agreement with Russia’s Saint Petersburg University to enhance research and education in cattle cloning and veterinary science.
According to a press statement released by the university, the agreement was signed during the recent visit of a four-member team from Pantnagar University to Russia.
The agreement aims to bolster collaborative research between the two institutions in cattle cloning and veterinary science, the statement added.
The cloning technology developed by the university’s Vice-chancellor Manmohan Singh Chauhan can help Russia in increasing the population of their farm animals and in ensuring food security, the statement said.
“The beef production in Russia is getting down because of non-availability of quality beef. India’s cloning technology will help Russia to increase beef production,” Chauhan said while speaking to the media.
The hand-guided cloning technology developed in India is very simple and effective, said Vice Chancellor of Pantnagar University.
The Indian delegation included HJ Shiva Prasad, director of international affairs, KP Raverkar, Dean PGS, and SC Tripathi, head of the department of veterinary and animal husbandry extension education.
